Shards of Alara
Shards of Alara is a 249 card set with multicolor cards being the theme. Shards released in 2008 and added some changes to the game. Mythic Rares were a new rarity level and one of the commons in the booster packs was replaced with a basic land. Shards of Alara introduced 5 shards mechanics which included Bant, Grixis, Esper, Jund and Naya. Notable cards include Ad Nauseam, Blightning, Ethersworn Canonist, Ranger of Eos and Knight of the White Orchid.
Conflux
Conflux is the second set in the Alara block. The 145 card set was released in 2009. Notable cards include Knight of the Reliquary, Maelstrom Archangel, Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker, Noble Hierarch and Path to Exile. The mechanics included Domain which became an ability and introduced land cycling. Conflux has 8 cycles including the basic landcyclers, common allied-colored spells, creatures with shard-colored activated abilities, enemy color hosers, outlanders, rare shard-colored creatures, uncommon allied colored spells, and uncommon shard-colored spells.
Alara Reborn
Alara Reborn is the third set in the Alara block and released in 2009. It contains 149 cards and is the only set in MTG that has only multicolor cards. The Cascade mechanic is introduced and this is also the first set that has Hybrid mana appear alongside traditional mana. The cycling mechanic also returned along with Landcycling, Exalted, Devour, and Unearth. Notable cards include Bloodbraid Elf, a staple card in the Jund deck, Qasali Pridemage, Thopter Foundry, and Uril the Miststalker.
