Scars of Mirrodin
Scars is set one in the Scars of Mrrodin Block. This 249 card set released October 1st 2010 and introduced new mechanics like Metalcraft, Infect, and Proliferate. Infect has changed the way we look at a game of Magic. It's like starting a game at ten life instead of twenty. The introduction of Planeswalkers Koth of the Hammer, Venser the Sojourner, and Elspeth Tirel have helped make Scars a set to watch out for.
Mirrodin Besieged
Mirrodin Besieged is the second set in the Scars of Mrrodin Block. Besieged released February 4th, 2011 and includes 155 cards. This set has helped to further create the two factions of Mirran and Phyrexia. The Zenith’s were introduced in this set, one for each of the five colors in Magic and Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas was introduced as a Blue/Black Planeswalker. The Battle Cry mechanic was added for the Mirran Faction and Living Weapon for the Phyrexian Faction. The set also includes 4 sets of mirrored pairs - Hero of Bladehold and Hero of Oxid Ridge; Mirran Crusader and Phyrexian Crusader; Koth's Courier and Glissa's Courier; Peace Strider and Pierce Strider. With these new mechanics and innovative cards, Mirrodin Besieged has helped to establish itself as a unique and fun set for players.
New Phyrexia
New Phyrexia was released in May of 2011 and is the third set in the Scars of Mirrodin block. The set name was not released right away, and was called "Action", as the story of the Phyrexian vs Mirrans continued and MTG developers didn’t want to spoil who won the war. However, in March they announced that the set would be called New Phyrexia and that the Phyrexians had taken over the plane of Mirrodin.
New Phyrexia introduced players to Phyrexian Mana, which is the Phyrexian symbol with one of the 5 colors as the background. If a card has Phyrexian Mana, a player can pay 2 life, or 1 mana of the background color, to play the card. New Phyrexia also continues with the mechanics of Infect, Proliferate, and Living Weapon. Notable cards include Phyrexian Obliterator, Karn the Libterated, Sword of War and Peace, and Etched Monstrosity.
